MORGAN HILL
Morgan Hill police officers were busy this weekend arresting nine area residents for alcohol and drug related offenses and nabbing a minor who tried to extort $100 from someone who had lost a cell phone.
Sunday afternoon, Nicole Agriesti, 23, of Morgan Hill, who was charged with assaulting a pregnant woman in July 2005 and is awaiting sentencing after reaching a plea agreement, reported her purse was stolen.
Morgan Hill police Cmdr. David Swing said her purse containing her cell phone was stolen from a residence on Barnell Avenue at approximately 2:25 p.m. Shortly after, she received a call from a suspect who was holding her cell phone for ransom. The suspect told her that if she wanted her phone back, she would have to pay $100, Swing said.
Agriesti set up a time and place to meet the suspect and notified police. Shortly after 3 p.m., she waited for the suspect in the arranged meeting place while an undercover police officer watched. A 14-year-old girl showed up with Agriesti’s phone and was arrested for alleged possession of stolen property and extortion and was later released.
On Friday night just after 9 p.m., officers were checking what has come to be known as “hotel row” on Condit Road and found Ramona Roman, 37, of Gilroy. She was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and later released.
Shortly after, at approximately 9:50 p.m., officers responded to a report of a fight at StriXe Lounge in Tennant Station shopping center. They found Sonny Robles, 31, of Morgan Hill, who had reportedly tried to instigate a fight with a security guard. He was arrested on suspicion of being drunk in public and was later released.
Officers then made two suspected drunken driving arrests. Pricilla Pena, 28, of Gilroy was arrested at approximately 10:40 p.m., and an hour later, Mary Dokter, 52, of Morgan Hill was cited and released. Pena was also charged with allegedly driving on a suspended license.
Drugs and alcohol continued to be the theme for arrests into Saturday, Swing said. At 12:50 a.m., Raul Escarano, 19, of Morgan Hill, and Gabriel Jimenez, 22, also of Morgan Hill, were stopped and later arrested on multiple charges. Both were booked into Santa Clara County Jail.
Escarano was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, alleged possession of a controlled substance, possession of a deadly weapon, possession of paraphernalia and violation of probation. Jimenez, who also had three outstanding warrants, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and alleged possession of a controlled substance. Swing said officers found more than five grams of methamphetamine.
At 1:35 a.m., Harvey Crumb, 22, of Chula Vista was cited and later released on suspicion of driving under the influence.
On Saturday night, at 9:10 p.m., Wendy Gomez, 33, of Morgan Hill was stopped at Church Street and Edmundson Avenue and was cited and later released on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Juan Olmos, 24, of Morgan Hill was stopped at 10:24 p.m. Saturday night, and when tested with a breathalyzer, Swing said, he registered a .17, which is more than double the legal limit of .08. He was cited and later released on suspicion of driving under the influence and being an unlicensed driver.
At 11:13 p.m., Edward Gomez, 19, of Morgan Hill, and Michael McHenry, 18, of Morgan Hill were arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. They were later released.
