A pair of Live Oak High field hockey players earned recognition on the All-Blossom Valley Athletic League team after last season.
Seniors Eileen Grove and Kassandra Souza were both named to the all-league team after leading the Acorns to a seventh-place finish in the BVAL’s Santa Teresa Division last fall.
Grove, a sweeper, earned all-league first team honors, while Souza, a goalkeeper, was second team all-league.
According to LO coach Christy Musselmann, Grove and Souza were the team’s leaders last season.
“They are both outstanding players,” Musselmann said.
Both players were three-year varsity starters, and Grove was the team’s two-time MVP.
Musselmann also had praise for the play of seniors Samantha Ferry and Paris Rowan, along with junior Julie Jacobson, who was named the team’s Most Improved Player.
In addition, freshmen standouts Sarah Locarnini and Kami Tersini had solid seasons for the Acorns and give the team hope for the future, Musselmann said.
LO finished the season 6-12-1 overall, and 4-9-1 in league play.
LO boys soccer
In the Tri-County Athletic League’s annual showdown between league favorites Live Oak and Gilroy, the Acorn boys soccer team will have a definite advantage heading into today’s matchup at Gilroy High at 3:30pm.
That’s because the Mustangs will be missing two of their top players in Everardo Diaz De Leon and Joel Vera, both of whom were red-carded in Friday’s 3-0 win at North Salinas.
Live Oak is 9-0-4 overall (1-0 in TCAL), while Gilroy is 8-1-1 overall (1-0 in TCAL).
