Morgan Hill – After a rocky start, the Live Oak boys water polo team has won 13 of their last 14 games, and is looking for a big win against Leland today.
“We’ve had a nice turnaround,” head coach Mack Haines said. “We’re putting things back together and heading in the right direction.”
Haines said his players have been quietly figuring out what their roles are and how to keep moving forward and improving. “We’re learning what we can and can not do,” he said. “It started off with us being below .500, but since the end of September we have continued to improve.”
In last Tuesday’s match against Willow Glen the Acorns maintained their undefeated league record with a 12-6 victory.
Sam Cretcher scored six of the Acorns’ 12 goals, Steven Rick scored two, and McCombs, Sennert, Acevedo, Robinson each had one.
At 13-7 overall, and 4-0 in league the Acorns head into battle with Leland tonight (girls at 4 p.m. and boys at 7 p.m.) with hopes of upsetting the No. 1 team.
“The Leland girls and boys are both ranked ahead of us,” Haines said. “They are physically the most talented team, and we would definitely be the underdog.”
Haines said both teams are hoping to make both games competitive.
“Regardless of where we end up it’s great to see them pull together and see them play so hard,” he said. “Leland will be an incredible test to see where we are at,” he said.
