The driver of an SUV was found unresponsive with major injuries after his vehicle crashed on U.S. 101 in Morgan Hill Thursday morning.
A 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 51-year-old Gonzales man, was traveling north on the freeway “in an unknown lane and at an unknown rate of speed” before the single-vehicle collision Sept. 21, according to a press release from California Highway Patrol Officer Chris Miceli.
For an unknown reason, the driver turned the Tahoe to the right, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway, according to police. The SUV traveled across the right shoulder of U.S. 101 and collided with the Tennant Avenue overcrossing. The vehicle came to rest in a dirt area just off the right shoulder of northbound U.S. 101.
Emergency personnel received the first reports of the accident about 9:15 a.m.
When police arrived, the driver was unresponsive and not breathing, according to the press release. After he was resuscitated at the scene, he was transported to a nearby hospital.
Police do not know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident, which is under investigation.
