Town Trustees Organize
The Town Trustees met Thursday morning and were sworn into office and organized by electing Trustee A.S. Votaw president.
Trustee Lynch and Votaw were appointed a committee to confer with the incoming supervisor regarding the tax money which will be coming to the town.
In the matter of salaries of town officers it was decided that they should be kept as low as possible the first year.
Seven ordinances were passed first reading.
The Board then adjourned to meet next Wednesday evening in Board of Trade hall at 7:30 o’clock.
Canning Season Closes
The cannery of Bisceglia Brothers has closed down after a most successful season of six months duration. From 150 to 200 hands were employed during the entire season and from 30,000 to 40,000 cases of fruit and vegetables were put up. Their entire output of tomatoes, amounting to about 8,000 cases, was contracted for by the Government and is now being shipped to Manila. Ten thousand cases of peaches of two dozen cans each and 4,000 gallon cans of peaches, 6,000 cases of peas; 3,000 dozen 1 gallon cans of peas; 3,000 cases of apricots, cherries, pears, etc. were put up.
The cannery has been established in Morgan Hill three years, and they have been so successful that they are planning to enlarge it next year. They will have thirty or forty acres in beans and 200 acres in peas.
Entertainment
The young ladies of the MAdrone Sacred Heart Church parish have arranged an entertainment and dance for Thanksgiving eve., Wednesday, November 28th. The program will consist of several vocal and instrumental numbers, to be succeeded by a farce in one act, entitled, “Eh! What is it?”. Rev. J.A. Lally, pastor of the St. Patricks Curch in San Jose and pastor of the Madrone Parish, will deliver the address of welcome. During the evening an elaborate supper will be served.
Brohaskas Orchestra will furnish the music.
