More ballots counted have not resulted in any lead changes in City of Morgan Hill election races as of late Nov. 12, according to the latest results from the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters office.
Although his lead has slipped some since the initial vote tally on election night, Mayor Mark Turner holds a commanding lead over challenger and City Council member Yvonne Martinez Beltran in the mayoral election. As of Tuesday afternoon, Turner held nearly 59% of the votes counted, according to the registrar’s office.
Two new council members—Miriam Vega and Soraida Iwanaga—are on their way to victory in their respective council district races, as of 5pm Nov. 7. Vega leads her challenger with about 55% of the vote. Iwanaga, running for the District C council seat, has also garnered nearly 55 percent.
And three new trustees will be seated later this year on the Morgan Hill Unified School District Board of Education, according to the registrar’s latest posted results. Those are Jennifer Marquez for Trustee Area 5, Rebecca Munson for TA6 and Veronica Andrade for TA7.
Zoe Lofgren, U.S. Congressmember for the 18th District, has handily defeated former San Benito County Supervisor Peter Hernandez. Lofgren has garnered 65% of the ballots counted so far.
And in State Assembly District 29, Speaker Robert Rivas is walking away with 66% of the ballots counted as of Nov. 12. Challenger J.W. Paine has received about 34% of the ballots.
Overall turnout for Santa Clara County on Nov. 5 currently measures about 68%, with 712,224 ballots counted by election officials as of Tuesday evening. There are about 1.05 million registered voters in Santa Clara County.
Morgan Hill also voted overwhelmingly for term limits for the mayor, city council members and city treasurer. More than 78% of voters have cast “yes” ballots in favor of Measure A for local term limits, according to the registrar’s office.
Although Measure B lost some ground after more ballots were counted over the weekend, “yes” votes still count for a commanding majority. Nearly 54% of votes cast so far are in support of the measure, which would increase the Morgan Hill Mayor’s term from two to four years.
