Morgan Hill resident Sam Koldewyn achieved the rank of Eagle Scout after improving a crumbling, unsafe paver patio at Oakwood School.

Koldewyn became an Eagle Scout on Sept. 11, according to his father, Soren Koldewyn. Sam has been a member of Troop 709 for several years. He earned 36 merit badges and attended numerous summer camps during his time as a scout.

For his public service project—a prerequisite to earning the Eagle Scout rank—Sam Koldewyn led a group of volunteers in refurbishing a paver patio at Oakwood School in Morgan Hill.

“The team removed the old pavers, old sand and old base rock,” Sam’s father wrote in an email. “He graded the area, then laid down new base rock, sand, and then arranged the old pavers in a new configuration. He appreciates the support he had and learned much from the project.”

Materials for the project were donated from Ace Hardware, Grass Farm, U Save Rockery and A Tool Shed.

Koldewyn’s Eagle Court of Honor will be held in October at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Morgan Hill.
