Overnight in the park
Bring your family and your camping gear and enjoy a night under the stars at the Family Overnight in the Park, 6pm Sept. 20 to 6pm Sept. 21 at Morgan Hill Community Park, 171 W. Latin Cultural Show
The third annual Latin Cultural Show & Outdoor Concert will take place 3-7:30pm Sept. 21 at the Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road. Bring your blankets, chairs and snacks to enjoy an evening of outdoor Latin music with a live band. Dance groups will perform a variety of Central and South American routines. The event is free.
Taste of Morgan Hill
The Chamber of Commerce’s annual Taste of Morgan Hill food, art and music festival will take place Sept. 28 and 29 in downtown Morgan Hill. The free event features a variety of local and regional cuisine, arts and crafts vendors, kids’ games and live music performances. Hours are 10am to 7pm Sept. 28, and 10am to 6pm Sept. 29.
Flag football
Register now for the South Valley NFL Flag Football League’s 2019 fall season. Dedicated to providing a high quality NFL FLAG program for boys and girls ages 4-14, South Valley Flag Football has been running leagues in the Morgan Hill area since 2004. The cost to play is $150 for 10 games plus Player Combine, End of Season Jamboree, NFL LOGO Jersey and flags, t-shirts, shorts, socks and more. NFL FLAG is a 5-on-5, no-contact game that emphasizes skill development, equal playing time, life lessons and teamwork. Plus, it is lots of fun to play. Registration is now open at svflagfootball.net. Parents can register online then mail payment. Payment and mailing information is located on the registration form. Early registration closes Sept. 29 and final registration closes on Oct. 20. The Player Combine will be held Sept. 29. The season’s first games are Oct. 20 and the season ends Dec. 1.
Plant trees
Volunteers are needed to plant 157 trees 9am to 3pm Oct. 5 on the Butterfield Basin, between Maple and Railroad avenue. The City of Morgan Hill has partnered with and received a grant from CalFire to increase the tree canopy and provide environmental benefits to the community by planting more trees. Composting Workshop
Learn to make your own compost at home at an Oct. 5 workshop taught by a Santa Clara County Master Composter. The workshop is scheduled for 10am to 12pm at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center, 17000 Monterey Road. Learn the basics of backyard composting techniques in a fun and easy-to-understand lecture format. A free compost bin will be provided to one lucky participant. Enrique’s Journey
With the use of award-winning photographs, Pulitzer Prize Author Sonia Nazario will take you inside the world of millions of immigrant women who have come to the U.S. as single mothers and their children who must journey alone from Central America and Mexico to reunite with them. Nazario spent three months on this journey to tell the story of one child migrant named Enrique. Learn about Enrique’s Journey and America’s Immigration Dilemma 7pm Oct. 7 at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, 17000 Monterey Road, to unravel this story of determination and the larger immigration issues that surround it.
British Fall Classic
The 8th annual British Fall Classic car show will take place Oct. 12 and 13 in downtown Morgan Hill. Sponsored by On the Road Again Classics, the event features a cruise, show and other activities for enthusiasts of British classic cars.
