Nearly $4 million worth of street paving projects are in the works in Morgan Hill in the coming months.
The city sent out a newsletter on Aug. 7 alerting residents to the projects and the delays that might result.
Some of the work began last week and proceeded through the weekend. Other road projects will begin in September. The projects were awarded to Granite Rock Co for $3,943,226.
The city has allocated funding the pavement rehabilitation program which, according to Communications and Engagement Director Maureen Tobin, has been in place for decades. Tobin said the increase in funding for the pavement rehabilitation program has come from the 2016 Santa Clara County Measure B sales tax and the state Road Repair and Accountability Act.
The email sent to residents said the project areas were selected through “Pavement Management Program (PMP) data, resident feedback and field observations from street maintenance crews.”
According to the email, all parking restrictions on affected public streets and parking lots will be posted 72 hours in advance.
New paving on Monterey from Cochrane Road to Tilton Avenue is expected to begin in September. Crack sealing on Butterfield Boulevard from Cochrane Road to Main Avenue will begin in September, and slurry sealing on Cochrane Road from Monterey Road to Mission View Drive will begin Aug. 19. Last Friday, Aug. 9, city crews sealed Depot Street through downtown Morgan Hill.
“During major overlay and slurry seal operations, traffic control devices will be set up, and the roadways will have lane closures or may be temporarily blocked as the work progresses,” said the email notice. “For your safety, please travel through the work zones/detours carefully or utilize alternative routes.”
