A pedestrian died after a vehicle struck him on Monterey Road in south Morgan Hill Tuesday night, according to police.
The accident occurred about 10:26pm June 25 in the area of Monterey Road and East Middle Avenue. When Morgan Hill Police officers arrived at the scene, a vehicle was located in the northbound lanes of traffic with significant front-end damage, police said.
Officers also saw a male subject lying in the northbound lanes of Monterey Road, just north of the collision scene, according to police. The pedestrian was unresponsive and suffering from major injuries.
MHPD officers and members of the Morgan Hill Fire Department began rescue efforts, and EMS personnel transported the pedestrian to Regional Medical Center in San Jose, according to police. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the pedestrian’s name.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. Officers observed no signs of driving under the influence.
Prior to the collision, the pedestrian was seen in the far right northbound lane of Monterey Road, according to police. Investigators think the vehicle was traveling at or below the posted speed limit before the collision.
The MHPD Traffic Unit is investigating the accident.
