Residents are cautioned to brace for high winds and possible flash floods in Morgan Hill and surrounding areas this afternoon. The wind and rain advisory will continue overnight through Saturday morning.
Morgan Hill city staff sent out an email to residents the morning of Feb. 1, warning them of the coming inclement weather.
The email from the city’s Communications Manager, Maureen Tobin, urges residents who live in areas prone to flooding to pick up sandbags before the worst of the rain arrives. Sandbags can be picked up at 100 Edes Court (next to the city’s corporation yard) and on Old Monterey Road next to the El Toro Fire Station. The sandbag locations are open 24/7 and are self-serve with bags, sand and shovels supplied on site.
The city further listed the following tips and preparations that residents can make to prepare for possible flooding:
• Clear debris from storm grates and drains;
• Have flashlights and extra batteries on hand;
• Don’t drive through standing or running water;
• Develop your family emergency plan;
• Sign up for AlertSCC by texting your zip code to 888777. This service sends emergency alerts to residents who are signed up.
• Report any flooding, downed trees or damaged power lines to the City of Morgan Hill at (408) 779-2101.
