Morgan Hill Police Department was one of many law enforcement agencies across the nation that responded to local bomb threats Dec. 13.
The threats originated from a “nationwide, multi-state email that many jurisdictions received” Thursday morning, MHPD Sgt. Bill Norman said.
In Morgan Hill, police responded to threats at a business on Joleen Way, and at Advent Lutheran Church on Murphy Avenue. Both threats were “unfounded,” Norman said.
Other police agencies that responded to similar threats in their communities Dec. 13 also reported there was no real danger after investigating, according to various news reports. Some police agencies determined the email threat was a hoax.
Police departments in New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, St. Louis and other regions reported similar email threats by the afternoon of Dec. 13—all of them determined to be unfounded.
The Gilroy Police Department responded to a Snapchat social media posting late Dec. 12 that appeared to threaten a school shooting. The post included photos of rifles. Gilroy Police investigated after receiving multiple calls from concerned parents, but determined that post originated in Florida and there was no local threat, according to police.
