Red Phone, my concern is with people parking in disabled parking

a handicap spot.
“Red Phone, my concern is with people parking in disabled parking spaces who don’t need to park in disabled spaces. They’re either using deceased parents placard or their grandparents or whatever. I have heart problems and sometimes I can’t go to the store because I can’t find a handicap spot. Also, some people have a tendency to park on the line so I can’t unload my wheelchair. They should increase the fine to say $1,000. Maybe that would stop people from parking in these spots illegally.”
Red Phone: Dear Get Out of My Spot, Red Phone couldn’t agree more. The lack of respect exhibited by those who believe the rules we all abide by don’t pertain to them is disheartening. Come on people, have some respect for others.
Good caller, you have a good idea. Raising the fine from the current $285 to $1,000 would likely stop most offenders.
Keep you dogs off my property
“Red Phone, I have a complaint about Morgan Hill residents who bring their animals up to my house near El Toro mountain and let them defecate on my property. I’ve asked politely to keep their dogs from doing that, but I’m not getting any cooperation. I do want people to know there is an ordinance against that. I wish they would please pay attention. I don’t appreciate the dogs defecating on my property.”
Red Phone: Dear Tired of Doggie Defecation, see above response. Maybe we could fine those dog owners as well.
Who is responsible for tree upkeep?
“Dear Red Phone, my heart goes out to the family of the toddler who was killed by a fallen tree in San Jose recently. It brings me to this topic: What is the policy for land/homeowners? What is the owner responsible for trimming? Root inspection? Sidewalk condition? Thanks.”
Red Phone: Dear Wondering, Red Phone contacted Mori Struve, deputy director of public works, who said the maintenance of street trees planted in the public street right of way and public sidewalks in the city of Morgan Hill are currently the city’s responsibility, however, revenue for funding street tree trimming and sidewalk repair/replacement is not adequate.
“In fact, the city’s three-year rotational street tree trimming program (every street tree receives a maintenance trimming once every three years) and annual sidewalk replacement program (approximately $50-60,000 annually) have not been funded for the past three years, Struve said. “Instead, street trees are currently only trimmed to allow for safe passing of vehicles and pedestrians or when a problem occurs such as branch breakage. Sidewalk offsets of greater than 3/4-inch are made safe with the temporary placement of asphalt or concrete grinding. Removal and replacement is being deferred.”
Good caller, hope that answers your question.
