Police arrested an “unbelievably drunk” man after he vandalized a Chinese restaurant and acted belligerently outside a south Morgan Hill liquor store, police said.

Wesley Onyegegbu, 26, whose last known address was in San Jose, was arrested for the second time in two days following the incident Tuesday night in which he broke a glass countertop at Mr. Hongs Chinese restaurant at 16745 Monterey Road, Morgan Hill Police Sgt. Jerry Neumayer said.

Police received a vandalism call to the address about 5:20 p.m., Neumayer said. When officers arrived, they saw Onyegegbu running across Monterey Road to the World gas station. Police caught up with Onyegegbu outside the gas station, where they subdued and arrested him.

The suspect was “unbelievably drunk” when he arrived at the police station, where officers booked him into county jail on suspicion of vandalism.

A witness said before police arrived in response to the vandalism at Mr. Hong’s, Onyegegbu had walked next door to Sun Valley Market and threw a newspaper stand into the street.

Neumayer noted that Onyegegbu had been arrested Monday afternoon on suspicion of being drunk in public. He was required to stay in a cell at the police station for several hours, and released after he sobered up, police said.

Officers who responded to Tuesday’s vandalism recognized Onyegegbu from the previous incident when they caught up to him at the World gas station.
