The game between the Morgan Hill, Fantastic Six and the Gilroy, Red Rangers ended in a 7-7 tie with great offensive, showed by both sides. Adam Stacer ended the game with two goals, one assist and was again on the field for most of the game. Marcus Valenzuela was able to score another goal and played some great defense, Madelyn Perham had some great shots on goals but was unable to get one in. Brandon Purcell was able to score three goals and had many great opportunities. The Red Rangers came back strong and tied the game with a flurry of goals the end of regulation.
Boys 10U
Cobras 6, Blue Thunder 2
Blue Thunder showed great play on both sides. Michael Dukes and Austin Chenoweth made the goals. Conner Porzio and Brian Freitas displayed their talent driving the ball up the field. Kirk Nelson demonstrated how to play awesome defense, getting the ball away from the other team. Ben Nuno once again strutted his fancy legwork while David Molyneux and Blake Porzio saved goals from being scored.
Competitive LEAGUE
Blue Lightning 1, United 0
Two closely matched teams battled each other and temperatures near 100 degrees in a fierce struggle.
Neither team was able to penetrate the other’s defenses until the 32nd minute when Blue Lightning Tiffany Zanotto used her speed to break through and score her second goal of the season. Though each team had several good chances in the second half. The Lightening remained unbeaten after three games in this young season.
Boys 9U
The OV Quakes Boys U9 team played a non-league game against the North Valley United Boys U10 team on Saturday in Morgan Hill. Jonathan Deleon opened the scoring in the first minute for the Quakes by dribbling past the United defense down the right side and scoring with a wicked shot from 15 yards out. Vincent Czeropski made it 2-0 a few minutes later with a right footed smash past the United goalkeeper off a corner kick by Deleon. Deleon and Czeropski each added another goal while the Quakes defense and keeper Carlos Herrera held tough against the strong, older United
Girls 9U
The Orchard Valley Storm traveled to Danville to play four games in the Devil Mountain Jamboree. The Storm swept all four games while not allowing a goal.
Goalkeepers Rebekah Inouye and Megan Nebesnick saw only modest action as a result of strong play from fullbacks Sydney Barker, Tula Urban and Jada Williams.
The Storm won their opening game over the Big Dogs 1-0. The Storm scored early in the game when Colby Carson burst down the left side, then crossed the ball to Amber Thomas at the top of the box. Thomas blasted a shot over the goalie’s outstretched hands for the goal. Hailey Hamilton created a great opportunity for a second goal, but was denied by strong Big Dog defense.
The Storm beat the Earthquakes 4-0 by a pair of goals in each half. Janessa Garcia scored on a beautiful goal midway through the first half. Cobly Carson, Samantha Riolo and Taylor Slattery followed with goals of their own as the Storm pulled away to a comfortable win.
On Sunday morning, the Storm beat the Tornado 2-0. Colby Carson scored to give the Storm the lead. Jada Williams scored later on spectacular corner kick that found the far post of the Tornado goal for the final margin of victory.
The Storm completed the weekend sweep by beating the Sharks 2-0. Samantha Riolo scored on a nice cross by Megan Nebesnick. Riolo then created havoc again by beating the defense and firing a hard shot that the Shark goalie knocked down. Colby Carson punched in the rebound for her third goal of the weekend. The Storm raised their overall record in 2003 to 18-0-1.
Girls 13U
Rampage 1, Magic 0
Against the West Valley Magic, Lexi Nuno and Janessa Barnes started the Rampage off to a great offensive start with a breakaway that lead to a shot on goal by CJ Wrye. The midfielders Emily Horning, Maureen King, Barnes and Kierstyn McGlothin and Maureen King played well with great passes and footwork that keep the ball close to the Magic’s goal.
Forwards Jackie Vidal, Remy Gross and Julia Pasek all worked hard keeping the Magic’s fullbacks busy. Sweeper Makenna Austin did a great job defending the Rampage’s goal and goalie Maia Guerrero had four saves for the games.
In the second half, King, Horning and Nuno all had shots on goal. With the help of the team, McGlothin had a corner kick that almost made it’s way to the goal. Toward the end of the second half, Horning made a penalty kick for the Rampage that put them ahead1-0.
Boys 13U
Pumas 5, Strikers 2
The Pumas record are now 4-0 after win against the West Valley Strikers. The Strikers scored on a penalty shot less than 10 minutes into the game and minutes later scored again.
Pumas left forward Jeremy Valdez worked out a corner with his swift attacks. The corner kick was poorly cleared and found its way to Mario Vargas who put it past the scrambling keeper.
Then a few minutes after the kickoff, the hard working Valdez powered past two Striker defenders, and his cross could not be held by the opposing keeper. Robert Adam had no trouble finishing from a few yards out.
Moments later, Hoskins’ shot from 25 yards looked on target, but the keeper managed to touch the ball over for a corner.
The Pumas took the lead before the half after Phillip Thrappas found Anthony Velazquez 20 yards out for the goal.
In the second half, the Pumas added two more goals to put the game out of reach at 5-2. The second half goals were the result of hard work from Vargas and superb finish from Velazquez, who recorded a hat trick.
Strong performances from keeper Mantano and defenders Guenther, Wang and Cambra kept the Strikers scoreless in the second half.
