Live Oak will open up its home football season Friday night against Oak Grove.
Both teams were coming off of losses in the season openers. Live Oak was shutout 24-0 by Milpitas, while St. Francis worked out a wild 42-35 win.
“It was kind of a shootout,” Webb said “They are obviously capable of putting up some points. But St. Francis was able to move the ball on them. They have a lot of talent – a retuning quarterback and a couple good receivers. You can always count on them to have a couple good running backs also.”
Live Oak picked up just three first downs in the game last week against Milpitas. But when the Eagles and Acorns met last met last year, Oak Grove won 35-21 after Live Oak showed much improvement over Milpitas in the first game.
“There an explosive team,” Webb said. “We will have to play sound defense in order to hang in there and find ways to score ourselves. It is obviously possible to score on them. We’ll find out whether it was a strong”
Live Oak will again be without All-TCAL player Daniel Salinas, who injured his ankle in practice before the first game. Live Oak may bring up a player from JV to take his spot at running back, Webb said. Steve Conner will once again get the start at quarterback.
Live Oak may have a home field advantage, but not the type that was envisioned for the christening of the new field.
“We know where all the brown spots and broken sprinkler lines are,” Webb said jokingly.
The field had an irrigation problem, and then the water was cut off all together for awhile.
