“I see the City Council delegated $5,000 for downtown safety.
Crosswalks are marked but if you do stop – as I do – you can get
rear ended. But the real problem is with the school district. Lt.
Booten doesn’t think that is important. People are still driving
through at 40-50 mph. Until a youn
gster gets hit the police department will ignore the problem. I
think Lt. Booten has her priorities mixed up and I’ll be glad to
tell her face to face.”
Traffic Ire

The caller is referring to the city’s efforts to slow traffic on Monterey Road through downtown, threatening pedestrians and making business owners nervous.
Decoy pedestrians have been trying to cross the street this week with police watching, waiting to nab drivers who ignore little old ladies and gentlemen, moms with strollers and people in wheelchairs.
“We do care and we’re out there, but we can’t get them all,” Booten said.
She asked the caller to let the police know if there is a particular time speeders are out and they will send a car. The city received a grant to improve the safety of the crosswalk at Britton Middle School on Monterey Road.
Proud of Pride
“I wanted to comment on that special Pride inserts you guys have been doing recently. I really like it. The stories are all positive and it’s really all about community and life in the area. And some of those photos are really great. I’ve noticed that the photos run really big and that makes them have so much more impact. So I just wanted to say good job with that. I really like it.”
The staff at The Times and sister newspapers Gilroy Dispatch and Hollister Free Lance appreciates your call.
The Pride sections take a lot of extra work to complete and the staff puts in long hours to come up with the final published product.
And for you to take a moment to call into the Red Phone and let everyone know you appreciate the work makes the staff feel appreciated as well.
Look for the community edition of Pride in Tuesday’s paper.
Kudos to the painters
“Good morning Red Phone! I’d like to thank the people who paint over the graffiti here in Morgan Hill because on my way to work I sometimes see the graffiti and by the time I come back at night it’s all gone. I think that these people who do that deserve a big round of applause.”
The Red Phone’s with you on that one. The people, from city workers to business owners, who take care of the unsightly vandalism that pops up around town deserve a standing ovation for their efforts in the fight against graffiti. If you do spot graffiti, call 776-8985 to have it painted over
MEA CULPa
Even Red Phone makes mistakes, believe it or not. The annual Hike Up El Toro is Saturday, April 2, not April 3. Don’t know if it was the brain, the eyes or the typing fingers that failed but do show up at the Historical Museum, 600 W. Main Ave., at 8 or 10am for a trek to a terrific view.
n The Red Phone sounds off Saturday in The Times.
We invite you to call us 24/7 to ask questions, report a complaint, give us a tip, offer a short, amusing tale or just want people to know about some Morgan Hill thing.
We’ll check it out and answer in an upcoming column. Have a question about the paper? A complaint about garbage? A compliment for your good neighbor?
Leave us a message on the Red Phone at 779-4106, x206 or go to www.morganhilltimes.com, click the Red Phone icon or e-mail direct to re******@*************es.com.
We won’t print or share your name.
