More than 290 Girl Scouts and 90 adults from Girl Scouts of Santa Clara County Service Unit 40 recently gathered to celebrate the 77th Girl Scout World Thinking Day. Celebrations are held around the world with nearly 10 million Girl Scouts and Girl Guides taking part.

World Thinking Day is the special day every year when girls in the 140 countries around the world that make up the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts remember their global sisterhood by learning about other countries. At the Girl Scouts of Morgan Hill and San Martin Service Unit 40 event, there were 30 troops present and 23 countries represented.

Honorary guest “Juliette Gordon Lowe”, the Founder of Girl Scouts, made a “special appearance” at this year’s celebration.

To prepare for World Thinking Day, Girl Scout troops select a country that they want to learn about, research their chosen country and host a booth where they display the information they have gathered along with items from the country.

Many troops will also include costumes and music with their displays. Girl Scouts then tour each booth to learn about the various countries and cultures, sample foods and swap souvenir pins. One of the highlights of the event is the entertainment portion where Girl Scouts perform skits, dances and sing songs reflecting the culture and heritage of the countries. Details: 287-4170.
