The Morgan Hill Downtown Association invites everyone to visit downtown Morgan Hill on Saturday, May 10, for three events: the downtown merchants annual spring sidewalk sale; an exhibition and sale at the Morgan Hill Grange Hall by the Piece By Piece Quilters Guild of Morgan Hill and the Gavilan Hills Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America; and the season opening of the Farmer’s Market at the train depot parking lot.
Downtown businesses will hold their annual spring sidewalk sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and invite area residents to visit the downtown merchants to check out the bargains available and see what makes downtown Morgan Hill the place to shop, said Dan Craig, executive director of the association.
Off-street parking is available on both sides of Monterey Road.
Quilting and embroidery are not what they used to be. At the Grange Hall, 40 E. 4th Street, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and free to the public, two Morgan Hill clubs will show off who they are and what they do. Growing in popularity and not bound by age or gender, quilting and embroidery can be exciting or relaxing, a work of art or a functional necessity.
Needlework is not just for grandmas anymore. Piece by Piece Quilters Guild of Morgan Hill is excited to show off the art and craft of quilts and quilt making, organizers said. They will have an extensive array of quilts and information available for everyone. They also will have an on-going quilting demonstration. This is their first exhibition in Morgan Hill. The Gavilan Hills Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America, established in 1979, also will be showing off some of their work. Both groups will have membership information available.
The Farmer’s Market will again be held at the Train Depot, on Depot Street (between Second and Third streets), from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Don’t forget to visit the other establishments while you are downtown. Coffee, breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all available at downtown restaurants.
