Morgan Hill Access Television Channel 19, or
“MHAT” as it is known to its all-volunteer crew, is gearing up
for the premiere of a movie review show reminiscent of Siskel and
Ebert. The show is the brainchild of local documentary filmmakers
Cliff Currie and Nathan Smith.
Morgan Hill Access Television Channel 19, or “MHAT” as it is known to its all-volunteer crew, is gearing up for the premiere of a movie review show reminiscent of Siskel and Ebert. The show is the brainchild of local documentary filmmakers Cliff Currie and Nathan Smith.
Producer Currie aims to shoot two episodes monthly at MHAT’s studio in downtown Morgan Hill. While the show is still very much in development, its creators will say it is “an unconventional format for a movie review program”. They aren’t willing to give much detail about its contents, but mentioned that they are dealing with major Hollywood studios, and have obtained music from a nationally recognized band to open and close the show.
Currie commented that “while the concept has been fun, we’ve had some obstacles. Initially I was intimidated by approaching the Hollywood studios for their help, but the biggest problem is casting local talent.”
Currie has placed flyers throughout Morgan Hill looking for a host or hostess between the ages of 21-28 with or without previous film or television experience, but has not had much luck with replies.
MHAT’s management has been supportive of the project.
“Entertainment programming is a new frontier for us”, said Jack Powers, MHAT president. “All the programs we’ve made so far have been of a documentary or informational nature. This should add a little spice to our schedule.”
