Whether you are an avid shutterbug or just take the occasional snapshot, and no matter what type of camera you use; a shoebox with a pinhole or the latest digital equipment, the library has resources to help you bring the world of photography into focus.

You can learn about photography’s past in a number of books including the richly illustrated A New History of Photography, edited by Michel Frizot. There are a number of books about great photographers, perhaps you would like to check out the beautiful book – Ansel Adams at 100 – which has dozens of gorgeous reproductions of this outstanding artist’s work.

Books on the art of photography abound in the library, leaf through a few and you’ll be inspired by a variety of artist’s visions.

There are plenty of how-to books and videos for photographers, from darkroom basics to photograph preservation, to the latest in digital technology. You can learn about marketing your work and taking it to the next level: becoming a professional photographer.

We even have books on the philosophy of photography. Check out Tom Ang’s Tao of Photography or David Finn’s How to Look at Everything.

The library also subscribes to the Popular Photography and Digital Photographer, magazines that can help you keep up to date with the latest trends in equipment and photographic processes.

Questions and suggested topics for At The Library, which appears in Tuesday editions, should be directed to Community Librarian Sarah Flowers at sf******@**********************ca.us or by calling 779-3196.
