Perhaps you don’t know much about art, but you want to learn more. We have lots of books and videos about art history and art appreciation. Try one of Sister Wendy Beckett’s books like The Story of Painting, or watch videos of her popular PBS series. We also have plenty of artist’s autobiographies and biographies.
The library can help you learn about the many movements and styles of western art and you can also discover the art of many cultures from all around the world.
If you feel like creating art, we have marvelous resources to help you develop your talents and hone your techniques. You’ll find how-to books, magazines and videos about all sorts of artistic mediums, from watercolor painting, printmaking, drawing and sculpture, to ceramics, woodcarving, airbrush, and fiber arts. You can learn about the elements of design, theories of color, and art philosophy.
The library has books and videos about the world’s great art museums and architectural sites.
