It is truly nice to be a senior. After four strenuous years of
homework, tests and mandatory state exams, seniors finally get a
break. This past week, the underclassmen had to take the California
Achievement Tests. While the younger students were busy bubbling in
answers, the seniors finally had some extra time to relax.

On Monday, seniors were allowed to catch up on some much needed sleep. School started for the seniors at 12:30 p.m. It was a wonderful feeling to stroll onto campus in the middle of the day only to attend three periods.
Tuesday was Senior Panorama Picture day. Seniors arrived at school at 11:30 a.m. and met on the football field to take a class picture. After the picture was taken, seniors only had to attend three more classes.
Wednesday was Senior Beach Day. Three school buses chartered the students to Seacliff Beach. The weather was warm, the sun was shining and students were anxious to have fun out on the beach. Several teachers chaperoned the event and barbecued for the students. Live Oak hired a DJ for the day as well. Senior Beach Day turned out to be a successful event.
Thursday was another lazy day for the seniors. Seniors did not have to arrive to school until noontime. However, everyone was anxious for the Mr. and Ms. Live Oak contest. The contest is a body building competition for Live Oak students. It is a contest that is open to students of all ages, however many seniors participate.
Students flex their muscles in front of a judging panel composed of Live Oak graduates, teachers, professional body builders and even the reigning 2002-03 Mr. Live Oak. Senior Jenna Borns won the Ms. Live Oak title for the second year in a row and Steve Sarich was awarded Mr. Live Oak.
Friday was a regular day for all students and staff at Live Oak. Although the routine returned to normal, the seniors are still anticipating Saturday’s Senior Ball that will be held at the Monterey Naval Post Graduate Academy. Tickets for the event are $25 per person and come with two complementary old-fashioned Coca-Cola glasses and a picture frame.
There are still many senior events to look forward to. After the Senior Ball, is the Senior Disneyland Trip. After the two-day excursion, seniors prepare for graduation, which is Friday, June 13. Immediately following graduation is Grad-Night, an all-night celebration for the graduates.
The year is finally coming to an end, and there are many exciting events to look forward to. Seniors are nearing the home stretch and the rest of the students and staff are awaiting summer vacation. Although school is almost out, don’t forget to support your Nuts!
