Mustang Division

Reds 8, Padres 6

A shorthanded Padre team with only two outfielders took the field against the big-hitting Reds. The Reds took the lead in the first when Chad Amundson drove in two with a single. Reds pitcher Ryan Laird pitched hard in the first holding the Padres at bay.

The Reds added two more runs when Howard Clayton reached on a base hit and Mueller hit an RBI single. Rhett Ramirez drove in Mueller with a long double.

The Padres caught fire in the second with a leadoff base hit by Jerry Jacobs, followed by back-to-back singles by Joey Cosentino and Austin Thompson. Colby Crider followed with an RBI double and Ryan Chipman followed with a double. The Padres tied the game in the fourth with another double by Chipman, and a two-RBI single from Jerry Jacobs.

The Reds came back in the fifth with back-to-back doubles in the fifth by Ramirez and Mike Gallucci. Martin Jacob hit an RBI single followed by a big triple by Ryan Laird. The Padres came within two in the sixth with a towering homer by Colby Crider, a double by Chipman and an RBI triple by Alex Hagiperos.

Indians 11, Angels 6

The Angels started the scoring in the first inning on a double by Benjamin Hartl, scoring Anthony Biondi and Ryan Webb.

For the Indians, Jakob Conlan singled, Chris Nielsen walked and Michael LemMon singled to drive in two runs. Mark Rauschnot capped off the first inning with a double to score LemMon. Ryan Hennings of the Angels came into the game with a the bases loaded in the second inning to get the final out.

The Indians pitching of Rauschnott, Conlan Nielsen allowed only one hit in the game. The Indians took a decisive lead in the bottom of the fourth inning with Ryan Pargaz recording the big hit to drive in Nathan Wrye and Jess Tolson.

John Kellet, Robert Hultsman and Pargaz also scored runs in the fourth inning. Aaron Lipscomb caught two fly ball for outs, and Jimmy Persons also played well defensively for the Indians.

Pony Division

Angels 11, Twins 3

The early innings was a matchup of pitchers – Joey Woodworth for the Twins and Kevin Grove for the Angels. Woodworth gave up two runs over three innings, striking out three. Grove allowed only one run in five innings and had seven strikeouts.

The Angels broke the game open in the fourth inning when Anthony Guidry, Billy Hill, Chris Sanine and Danny Nelson all scored. Hill almost hit for the cycle. He had a single, double and triple and went 3-for-4. Guidry went 2-for-3 and scored three runs. He also shut down the Twins in the sixth inning, allowing only one run. Sanine reached base all four times and scored two runs.

Jonathan Hughes went 2-for-4 for the Angels with an RBI. Derek Campagna came in to close the game, retiring the side in order in the seventh. This was the second two-hitter against the Twins this year for the Angels.

The offense was provided from the bats of Steven Davis and Josh Doubek. Davis, Derek Pastorino and Vincent Hatakeyama pitched well for the Twins.

Angels 5, Braves 2

Pitchers James Johnson for the Angels and Chris Wong for the Braves shut down both offenses as the Braves took a 2-1 lead into the fifth inning. After both teams were retired in the first inning.

Wong led off the second with a walk and scored on an RBI-single by Brett Johnson. Johnson scored the second run on an RBI groundout by Mike Kozacek. Wong pitched out of a bases-loaded one-out jam in the second inning, but the Angels got on the scoreboard in the third inning as James Johnson blasted a triple to score Anthony Guidry, who had singled.

The Angels tied the game in the fifth inning after Billy Hill, who doubled, was knocked in by Derek Campagna. Campagna pitched the final three innings for the win and didn’t allow a run. He was aided by a beautiful 6-4-3 double play. Jonathan Hughes and Danny Nelson turned the infield gem. Nelson made two more beautiful plays at second base to rob the Braves of base hits.

The Angels plated three runs in the sixth inning. Grove drove a triple to the Mustang fence to drive in Johnson, who had singled. Both Johnson and Grove went 2-for-3 to lead the Angels’ offense. Robert Barsanti and Blaine Sutton also had hits for the Braves.

Yankees 11, Twins 2

The Yankees opened the scoring the first on a leadoff single by Tim Davey, who then stole second and scored on a single by Cameron Willis. the Twins tied the score in the bottom of the first inning. Vince Hatakeyama tripled and scored on a ground out by Joey Woodworth. After the first inning, both starters settled down and shut down the opposing batters. The Yankee pitcher Cameron Willis went four innings, allowing one run on two hits.

Twins pitcher Woodworth went four innings, allowing two runs on three hits and struck out nine. Woodworth got some great defensive plays from outfielders James Araiza and Danny Adamo, who made a great running catch in deep right field.

Kyle Henning came in a pitched two scoreless innings for the Yankees and was aided by three fine catches in center field by Tim Davey. Davey made a fine running catch in which he collided with the left fielder but was still able to hold on to the ball.

The Yankees, who were leading 4-1 after the sixth inning, put the game out of reach with seven runs in the top of the seventh inning. Chris Barber led off with a single, Jim Molar followed with a triple and scored on a ground out. Kyle Hennings drove in two more runs with a double and scored on a triple by Cameron Willis.

A nice running catch in by Derek Pastorino in deep right field finally put an end to the Yankee rally. In the bottom of the inning for the Twins, Woodworth singled and scored on a double by Josh Doubek, but pitcher Blake Winzeler got the final two batters out.
