The County of Santa Clara’s new voting system will be on display and in use at the Gilroy Garlic Festival today and this weekend.
In November, the County will roll out new Direct Recording Electronic touch screen voting equipment. The Registrar of Voters office is participating in this event and several others activities throughout the county to offer voters a chance to become familiar with operating the new system.
Festival goers will have the opportunity to learn about Touch Screen Voting and get hands-on experience. They will be able to test their acumen by voting on a sample electoral ballot.
They also will be able to cast a ‘real vote” that counts on a ballot that has been designed specifically for this fun-filled event at Christmas Hill Park. The questions on the multi-lingual Garlic Festival ballots will offer voters a chance to declare their most and least favorite garlic foods, how many times have they attended the festival, and whether they are staying overnight in Gilroy. Festival participants also can try the language and accessibility features of the system.
Festival hours each day are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
