It’s a proven fact that when we give of our time, monies,
talents, we receive more back than we ever passed on. The rewards
may not come in the same form as we gave, and it might take many
days if not years for us to recognize our blessings for our
sharing, but the flow or creation of positive energy is there and

Many of us can remember going to school the first day, some of us remember the memories fondly. We had brand new shoes, the cool type, brand new clothes and school supplies. The trendiest back pack which would set us aside from the crowd. Some of us try to forget the first day of school, because we had hand me downs, and a used, empty back pack. We wanted to fade into the woodwork.

Our city has children that are living the second memory, and you can help make the first day of school, a joyful experience. Child Spree … which you can find out more about at www.yourmorganhill.com will take place Aug. 9. The goal is to provide new clothes, and a filled backpack for 200 children. Some $25,000 is needed, $5,000 has been raised.

You can make a difference in the life of a child in your hometown, by a monetary donation or a donation of your time Aug. 9th to help a child pick out clothes. For more information call 782-8883.


Blessed roll call quilts are being made 12 inch square by 12 inch square for the families of every Marine killed in the line of duty during Operation Enduring Freedom. There are more than 80 so far, and 30,000 squares are needed. If you would like to donate a square, let me know and I will get you more information. No sewing is involved, and a desire to share your gratitude is all that is needed.


The United States Post Office recently ran the Purple Heart Stamp honoring those wounded in combat. There is a limited amount of stamps available, although it would be great to see the interest necessitate a second run. The Post Office has only run Bugs Bunny and Elvis Presley twice.

Wouldn’t it be great if the Purple Heart Stamp needed another run? When you have a chance stop in at the San Martin Post Office and admire the beautiful plaque the San Jose Post Office presented to Bob Johnston Sr. in commemoration of his receiving the Purple Heart medal for his bravery in Vietnam.


Just a quick note to let you know that the Morgan Hill Library will be closed at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, all day Thursday, Aug. 7, and reopen at noon Friday, Aug. 8. The County Library is upgrading our online catalog. Many of you know, my idea of heaven is a library with a bakery attached … where I can read to my heart’s content and eat all kinds of yummies and never gain an ounce.


I paid a visit to St. Louise Regional Hospital the other day and wanted to let you know of one of the South Valley’s best kept secrets: its gift shop. Over the years, I have shopped there for special gifts, for myself and for others. I know that I will find that one item that wants to go home with me … They have jewelry, rosaries, angels, and for some of you … the best part is … See’s Candies. Yes, they stock these wonderful treats. Another beautiful part of their shop are the volunteers … ome of them have more than 20 years of giving back. Wednesday, July 30, you can eat at Chevy’s in Gilroy and help the South County Neighborhood Disaster Preparedness Project by putting your receipt in the box provided. Twenty percent of the receipts will be donated to the SCNDPP for its educational and training needs. Their next Citizens Emergency Response Classes will be held in October. In closing … think on this. Whatever you appreciate and give thanks for will increase in your life. Inner peace comes from within, not from without. Each person has a purpose and reason for being on earth.
