The Santa Clara County Open Space Authority has made two appointments to fill current vacancies on its Board of Directors.
Jim Foran was appointed to fill the vacancy for District 2, which generally includes Milpitas and northeast Santa Clara County. Mike Potter was selected to fill the vacancy for District 6, which generally includes the downtown and east San Jose areas. Both Foran and Potter will serve the remainder of the current terms for those seats, until March 2004, at which time they may stand for election.
Foran has been a member of the Authority’s Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) since early 2002. He is also a long-time member of the Santa Clara County Park and Recreation Commission, with significant time spent on that commission’s Acquisition Subcommittee, giving him a solid background in the many acquisition issues he will face as a member of the Authority’s Board.
Potter, who is district director for State Senator Byron Sher, is also a member of the Authority’s CAC, serves on the board of Community Housing Developers (a local non-profit affordable housing developer) and previously worked for 11 years in San Jose’s Parks and Recreation Department.
Formed by the State Legislature in 1992, the Santa Clara County Open Space Authority is governed by an elected Board of Directors consisting of seven elected representatives. Since beginning its acquisition program in 1999, the Authority has acquired over 8,000 acres of open space. The Authority strives to leverage its funds through grants, joint projects with other agencies and private donations.
