Avid readers report that a question they frequently get from others is “How do you find time to read so many books?”
Avid readers will also tell you that there’s never enough time to read all the books they want to read. But we all have our strategies for getting in as many books as possible during the course of a day, or a month, or a year.
Here are some suggestions on how to squeeze in a few extra minutes of reading time during your day:
• Get up a little earlier in the morning and read.
• Stay up a little later at night and read.
• Keep a book in your car/in your purse and read while waiting in line at the post office, etc.
• Take public transportation and read while on the train or bus.
• Make your lunch hour a reading hour.
• Read instead of watching TV. (Or read while watching TV and during the commercials.)
• Read while exercising.
• Always keep a book with you for times like jury duty, waiting for appointments, etc.
• Read while waiting for your kids at (dance, baseball, soccer, gymnastics) practice.
• Read while cleaning, cooking, or doing laundry (books on tape help for this one!)
• Read instead of cleaning, cooking, or doing laundry (this one probably requires paid help or an understanding spouse!)
Think of it this way: if you read for just an extra 15 minutes every day, you could probably finish a 300-page book in less than a month – and that’s 12 more books a year that you wouldn’t have had time for before.
