concert on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m
South Valley Symphony will kick off its 30th season with a concert on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m., featuring operatic arias from “La Traviata” and “Rigoletto” by Guiseppe Verdi and sung by Gilroy resident soprano Karen McConachin and baritone Michael Morris.
A concert on Dec. 14, at 4 p.m., will feature Phil Robb and the Gavilan College Concert Choir in a performance of the “Gloria” by Vivaldi. The program will also showcase the premier performance of a selection called “South Valley Fanfare” by Henry Mollicone, South Valley Symphony music director and conductor.
On Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. families will be entertained by music chosen just for them.
Solo artists from the orchestra will be highlighted during the April 3 concert, at 7:30 p.m. Artists will include flautist Patricia Chambers and viola player Scott Spangler performing music by Donizetti, Mandel and Copland.
A performance on May 22 at 7:30 p.m. will feature music from Spanish traditions. Arrangements are currently under way to include a Mariachi band for this concert.
A sixth concert will feature local artists for a jazz and blues presentation. A date and time have not yet been announced.
Most concerts will take place in the Gavilan College Theater, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd., Gilroy.
