The Live Oak girls varsity water polo team muscled up Tuesday against Notre Dame and won 19-4.
Chelsea Lanning scored 11 goals for the Acorns. Cameron Bair had three and Amanda Cretcher had two. Jessily Haines, Laura Melroy and Monica Cline each scored a goal.
Although Live Oak was basically able to score at will, coach Bryan Traverso said the team still needs work.
“You could tell it was our first game,” Traverso said. “Our passing wasn’t really good. Our shooting was OK. Our defense was sloppy, and our reaction to certain situations was not as quick as it needed to be. However, it was good to play a game like this, in that we see what needs to be worked on before it is too late.”

Live Oak and Gilroy rarely face each other in any sport when a league title is not on the line. But that was not the case when two teams met Wednesday at Live Oak in a friendly scrimmage game.
Gilroy and Live Oak play in two separate leagues and don’t face each other in regular season play. The Acorns play in the Blossom Valley League, while the Mustangs compete in the Tri-County Athletic League.
The Mustangs were using their red club jersies because their tradition white and blue ones weren’t issued yet.
Gilroy controlled the tempo most of the first half, but Live Oak came out more aggressive in the second 25-minute half and had several scoring opportunities.
Gilroy was able to get a fast break in the final minutes of the game. Maday Garcia knocked in the winner on a nice assist from Elana Ramirez.
Both teams looks strong for a preseason scrimmage, and both should be right on top of their respective leagues.
The teams practiced penalty strokes when the match was over, and neither team was able to score.
