Morgan Hill gymnasts Sarah Payne, Lauren Spicer and Rachel Ditta began the competition season for Levels 5 and 6 with strong finishes at the Judge’s Cup meet in Sacramento on Saturday, Aug. 9.

The girls all train at and compete for Almaden Valley Gymnastics Club. Sarah Payne and Lauren Spicer compete at Level 6 in the 11-12 and the 9-10 age groups respectively. Spicer took first place in the All-Around with a score of 34.875.

The All-Around competition is a combination of the athlete’s scores on all four gymnastic events.

Spicer also won first place on vault with a score of 9.0, first on bars with 8.35 and first on beam with 8.9. She took fourth on floor with a score of 8.625.

Sarah Payne took second place in the All-Around in her age group with a score of 33.25.

She won a second on vault with a score of 8.75, a second on bars with 7.775 and a third place on beam with a score of 8.65. Payne took sixth place on floor with an 8.075.

Rachel, who is 8 and competes at Level 5, competed in her first meet ever. She took seventh on beam with a 7.7 and seventh place on vault with a 7.65. She earned an 11th place in the All-Around competition.

The season for gymnasts competing at levels 4 through 6 continues through November. Levels 7 through 10 compete in spring.

Other Morgan Hill gymnasts Lauren Ostheimer, Aia Evans and Amanda Schlaefer competed at levels 7 and 8 last spring and also did exceptionally well. All 3 girls placed at the state meet for their level and age group.
