The Morgan Hill Pop Warner Mitey Mites concluded the preseason Saturday with a three-team scrimmage at Britton.
The three teams played a round robin on a shortened field of 30 yards with each unit getting 20 minutes against the other.
The Sunnyvale Jets and Gilroy Browns were hosted by the Morgan Hill Raiders. The Raiders offense scored four touchdowns during there downs.
While a stingy ball hawking defense shut out both opposing offenses.
The Raiders offense opened up against the Jets defense. On the first possession, Tyler Lerma took the ball to the end zone on a 15-yard sweep, beating the outside linebacker around the corner. Dominic Bejarano and Jerry Jacob were platooning at quarterback for the Raiders.
The second drive started with a nice off-tackle run by Deric Taylor to set up a quarterback keeper. Jacob scampered around the right end for the touchdown.
On the third series, time ran out as the Raiders were moving down to score again.
Without star linebacker Matthew Dariano, who was out with a contusion on the upper left arm, the defense stepped up and didn’t allow a score all day.
The Jets offense failed to gain a yard on their first first plays.
The wall of defensive linemen, spear headed by Mitch Crowley, Hunter Sutton, Minnich and Clayton Howard, allowed only 15 yards in the half hour round. On the last Jets drive, Frankie Palmer and Howard teamed up to sack the Jets quarterback for a four-yard loss.
Against the Gilroy Browns, the Morgan Hill defense also blanked the hard hitting Browns offense. Andrew Knight plugged any hole the Browns tried to open. While Palmer made a great open field tackle to preserve the shutout.
The last units to play were the Raiders offense against the Browns defense. The group of Isaiah Espinoza, Tyler Hill and Steven Villarreal controlled the line for nice runs by Palmer.
Tyler Lerma had a superb run, taking the ball to the left and cutting back through the entire defense for a 25-yard touchdown run.
The season will start Sunday with a Jamboree at Live Oak with the kick off scheduled for 9 a.m.
