Live Oak well represented on TCAL all-league team
Morgan Hill – The Live Oak Acorns football team had 18 players voted to the Tri-County Athletic League 2005 all-league football team, more than any other team in the league, including Coach of the Year honors for Acorns head coach Rick Booth.
“I was very surprised,” said Booth of receiving the Coach of the Year award. ” I had good coaches around me and great kids playing. I thought Chris Cameron should have gotten it, I nominated him. Their (San Benito’s) win against Palma was huge.”
Voted to the first team all-league, along with senior running back Dustin Muhn, were Live Oak’s junior running back Kevin Abbott, senior offensive lineman Jason Romero, senior linebacker Nathan Goldie and senior center Tom Russo.
Abbott rushed for 1,135 yards and 14 touchdowns during the season. Romero and Russo created holes for both Muhn and Abbott on the line, knocking back the defense. Goldie was the only defensive player voted to the first team for abusing opposing teams offensive skilled players.
Junior defensive back Kalata Victory, senior defensive back Joshua Smith, senior defensive lineman Eric Cifuentes, junior offensive lineman Michael McHenry and senior linebacker Mark Pimental received second team all-league selections.
Honorable mention honors were given to Mike Villalobos, Steven Webb, Matt Ellis, Ricardo Valencia, Steven Silviera, Tommy Sparling, Jimmy Conti and Buck Tanner.
“We just had a bunch of good kids that work hard,” said Booth. “I think it was a good representation of the team.”
