The next chapter of the famous – some would say infamous – Flying Lady Restaurant and grounds will open Wednesday night when the City Council and Planning Commission together consider the environmental impacts surrounding an 18-hole private golf course on the property.
The Flying Lady, on Foothill Avenue at East Middle Avenue, has long-since been sold to Corralitos Creek LLC, the property owners who include local resident John Fry, of Fry’s Electronics. The already-constructed golf course was planned to enhance the 58,946 square-foot restaurant building when it is restructured into a conference center and library for the American Institute of Mathematics, now based in Palo Alto.
Council and the Commission must first consider the draft Environmental Impact Report. The public is invited to review and comment on the EIR and potential mitigations through March 10.
Many of the mitigations are said to be complete.
Once the public comments are collected, the recommendations will be forwarded to the EIR consultant, David J. Powers Associates of San Jose. The final EIR will go to the Planning Commission in early May and on to the City Council for final approval in early June.
City Council and/or the Redevelopment Agency meets at 7 p.m. Wednesdays in City Hall Chambers, 17555 Peak Ave. Details: 779-7271. Council meetings are broadcast live on cable channel 17. The city’s website is www.morgan-hill.ca.gov
