The Live Oak Acorns must put loss behind them and focus on the for tonight’s game at Live Oak against the Salinas Cowboys.
Despite the lop-sided score against the North Salinas Vikings last Friday, the Acorns played well, and almost pulled out an upset until big plays shut them down.
According to Coach Glen Webb, Salinas has a well rounded team, but can be defeated.
“Salinas presents a whole different look,” said Webb. They play sound defense; their offense is not as explosive as the North Salinas team. They will likely be in contention for a championship. They are a good team, but are not invincible.”
The Live Oak team must look out for a one-two punch that the Cowboys feature, in their quarterback and fullback, according to Webb.
The team has played well against stiff competition, only seem to give up a big play or miss an opportunity at a crucial moment.
Webb said his players are giving all they have against opponents, but bad breaks kill chances for the team to achieve that elusive win.
“We’re throwing everything we have against opponents,” said Webb. “We had some bad breaks last week: an interception deep in their territory that ended in a touchdown and swung the score quite a bit.”
Live Oak tried to keep themselves in the game with a wide variety of trick plays, that nearly was enough to take the lead.
The Acorns are now 0-6-1 overall and 0-2 in league play. They will face the 1-1 Cowboys who lost to Palma last week 27-14.
In that game, Salinas was stale, only scoring in the first and last quarters. They gained less than 200 total yards while giving up more than 300.
If Live Oak, can hold the Cowboys like Palma did, they may be able to pull off the win.
The Acorns will be short handed as four players are currently on the injured list, including Andrew Cummins who suffered a concussion against the Vikings.
Linebacker Allan Huggans is out with a sprained knee.
Still out for Live Oak is Zach Freitas with a broken hand and John Pederson who under went shoulder surgery.
Eli Corrias as also been sidelined for personal matters.
