The Live Oak girls water polo team extended their perfect league record Tuesday in Monterey, defeating Santa Catalina High School 10-4.
The Acorn’s (16-3, 6-0 TCal) win gives the team a chance to finish the season with a perfect league record and a league championship.
Live Oak has just one league game remaining before the playoffs.
“We played pretty well,” Head Coach Brian Traverso said. “I thought we countered very, very good, played very good defense.”
Traverso was especially impressed with the play of Cameron Bair. Wherever the action was, she seemed to be right in the middle of it the entire afternoon.
“She was just everywhere in the pool yesterday. It was amazing to watch,” Traverso said. “I was pretty impressed. I thought she played a great overall game.”
Although the team played well and won to keep its place at the top of the league, Traverso said they could have played better, which they will need to do next week when they play San Benito High School in the season finale.
“We just missed a lot of shots,” he said. “Overall, I was very happy. There’s just a few things here and there that we need working on.
“And that’s something we’re addressing, especially coming down towards the end (of the season).”
Tuesday’s victory over Santa Catalina ensures the team of a first place tie with San Benito High School – who also has a perfect league record – heading into next week’s season finale with the Balers to determine the league champion.
Wednesday’s game against San Benito High School is slated for Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at Live Oak.
The Acorn’s first playoff game is scheduled for Nov. 4, also at home.
