After reading the Morgan Hill Times editorial in the May 30 edition concerning Live Oak Emerald Regime Director Jeff Wilson, I was reminded of the old adage about the person who knew just enough about an issue to form an opinion, but not enough to know what he was talking about. Your editorial writer definitely formed an opinion, but clearly suffers from lack of background on the issue.
Your editorial stated that “… aspects of the situation strike a sour note” and that Wilson was sending a message of “… me, me, me, me.” Regardless of how anyone might feel about the manner in which Wilson’s likely departure has been handled, no one with any knowledgeable background on the Live Oak Emerald Regime would ever, I repeat, ever accuse Jeff of acting in a selfish manner.
Those of us who have been fortunate enough to have our children learn and prosper under Jeff’s tutelage have first-hand knowledge of his seemingly limitless dedication to the music programs at both Live Oak High School and Martin Murphy Middle School.
As a parent who routinely dropped of a child at Murphy at 8 in the morning for Mr. Wilson’s first period Band class and picked up a child at Live Oak at 9:30 that same night at the conclusion of Mr. Wilson’s Marching Band practice, I can assure you that they don’t make teachers with more dedication and selflessness.
Need I also inform you that Jeff also puts in a full day’s work every Saturday throughout the Marching Band season? How many of us routinely put in that kind of time? Think what you might about Jeff, but implying that he is selfish simply shows how little you know.
All Jeff has wanted was the best for the students of the Morgan Hill School District, even if it has meant sacrificing his personal life for the past five years. Maybe, as you said, aspects of the situation strike a sour note, but your half-cocked editorial struck a real clinker.
