California Department of Forestry (CDF) responded to a fire at Railroad Street and Tennant Avenue in Morgan Hill Sunday afternoon that burned between six to eight acres of mostly dry grass and threatened structures.
Columns of thick black smoke could be seen for miles soon after the fire was reported at 3:48 p.m. The last fire unit left the scene at 8 a.m. Monday.
“The fire was between structures,” Capt. J. Rellamas of the CDF said Monday. “We set up a containment line to protect the structure.”
The fire began at the U-Save Rockery at 15760 Railroad Ave.
The fire burned multiple vehicles from a near by parking lot and spread to eucalyptus trees and surrounding grass fields.
Units from Santa Clara County Fire Deprtment, Gilroy and San Jose responded to a mutual aid call and the fire was quickly brought under control.
Though the fire was near Johnson Lumber Yard, according to the company, there was no real threat to the business.
