A student of mine was discussing with me the round of golf he had the previous day. He was telling me during the round he was playing well on the front nine.

When he reached the thirteenth hole, he started to lose his concentration and began hitting errant shots. Knowing your golf swing does not fall apart in three holes, I asked him if he had anything to eat or drink at the turn or any other time during the round. He hadn’t.

Because he didn’t eat or drink anything before, he teed off or during the first part of the round, his body may have run out of energy.

That’s way we need to put some nutrition in our system before we tee off or before any other physical activity we do on a daily basis. Nutrition is so important in how it relates to the body and makes the body function.

First, let’s start with carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are the key essential for energy. The body breaks down the carbohydrates and turns it into glucose, which produces the fuel for the body.

The second element is hydration. There are some forty quarts of water in your body. If you lose two percent of your body water, you will experience symptoms of dehydration and weakness.

You will feel light headed, find it hard to concentrate and lose muscle function. You need two to three quarts of water a day just to maintain body function. It takes 24 hours to replenish the water level in your body. Bottom line: drink water even when you are not thirsty.

To summarize. The golf swing is a demanding activity. The average round of golf takes four and a half to five hours to play. The body need nourishment and fluids to maintain proper body functions and concentration levels.
