I am sure at some point you have had to deal with trying to hit
a shot out of a bunker and the ball is buried in the sand. This is
a shot that gives even the most skilled player a run for his or her
money.
I am sure at some point you have had to deal with trying to hit a shot out of a bunker and the ball is buried in the sand. This is a shot that gives even the most skilled player a run for his or her money.
Next time try this.Remember with the ball being buried, you need to create a “digging” type of scenario to get the ball out.
This means either closing your sand wedge down to deloft the club and executing a steeper swing, You can also select a less lofted club such as a 52 degree gap wedge (if you have one) or even your regular wedge.
These clubs have less bounce than a sand wedge and have a sharper leading edge to cut through the sand. You will still want to use a steeper swing into the ball. Think about picking the club up very quickly in the back swing to do this.
Also be sure to still swing through the ball. A common mistake players make is chopping down to much on the ball with little or no follow through. Practice this shot at our short game area the next time you are at Coyote Creek.
Remember “Think Motion Not Notion”. Have fun.
