notched its first league victory this past Saturday in Santa Cruz
against the Jaws, winning 2-0.
Santa Cruz – The Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League Class III U-14 Fury notched its first league victory this past Saturday in Santa Cruz against the Jaws, winning 2-0.
Lauren Hunsaker opened the scoring, taking a pass from the far right post and firing to the left net corner to take a 1-0 lead in the first half.
Forwards Nicole Gonzales and Alex Maldonado gave the offense several good opportunities with excellent crossing passes. The defenders frustrated the Jaws’ offense, Emily Mandel, Kelly Foster and Danika Basista on the right and Mariette Lowe and Mika Matsumoto on the left.
Goalie Allison Troini was very active, making numerous diving saves and crucial tip aways. Andrea Salem made several excellent clears and Alyssa Gummow kept the pressure on with her booming free kicks.
The mid-fielders, Cassandra Valenzuela, Aubrey Young and Holly Dunwoodie, played key roles in supporting the defense and setting up plays for the offense. Dawn Watts capped off the Fury 2-0 victory with a mid-field breakaway in the second half.
