News Brief
The Santa Clara County Public Health Department has posted its plan for how to deal with a possible influenza pandemic on its Web site for public comment.

The plan addresses eight areas for preparedness activities and includes tools that can be used by healthcare professionals and organizations, public and private organizations, as well as county residents to prepare for the possibility. The plan will be finalized at the end of a 30-day public comment period.

“This plan will direct the Public Health Department’s response when pandemic influenza arrives in our county,” said Dr. Marty Fenstersheib, health officer for Santa Clara County.

The components of the plan include the legal authority of the health officer; disease reporting and surveillance; information for healthcare systems; measures to limit the spread of disease; clinical guidelines and disease management; risk communications and public education; psychosocial support services; and essential services.

The plan is available at www.sccphd.org/panflu.
