Morgan Hill resident and businesswoman Arlene Greenberg has finished a one-year term as district governor of Rotary International.
It’s the first time in the 51-year history of the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill that a local member was appointed to the prestigious position.
The 1.2 million Rotarians worldwide belong to clubs. Greenberg was the leader of a district which has 60 clubs with more than 4,000 members in Santa Clara, Alameda, Santa Cruz and San Benito counties.
The district is a leader in the Rotary world with innovative programs and strong support of local and international community service and contributions.
Through her time in office, which ran from July 2005 through June 2006, Greenberg’s role was to be a resource for the clubs and to offer support and training. Under her leadership the district saw an increase in membership, an increase in giving to The Rotary Foundation and a multitude of service projects by the clubs.
Following a trip to Honduras this past January for Rotary, Greenberg encouraged the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill to be the lead sponsor for a newly established burn center in Panama. The club took on the project, partnering with several other clubs in the district and the club in Panama to provide a grant through the Rotary Foundation of $45,000.
Greenberg, who’s past president of the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill, had a send-off roast-and-toast barbecue in Saratoga Springs earlier this month as a thank you for her year of service.
Greenberg has worked in Morgan Hill since 1998 and has lived in Morgan Hill since 1990. She and her husband Steve have three children and six grandchildren.
She worked in the mortgage industry for 31 years and is a licensed real estate broker. She owns Brentwood Pacific Financial, a mortgage brokerage company.
