Dear Editor,
I would like to thank all the individuals and organizations that work with Independence Day, Incorporated (IDI) to achieve what has been recognized as the foremost event of its kind in the western United States. Those of us who work year around to bring Morgan Hill the best possible holiday festival feel relief and satisfaction on July 5.
It has been an interesting year for me as IDI’s new president and for IDI as an organization. There have been wholesale changes on the part of the City of Morgan Hill’s procedures in handling special events such as ours and also in IDI’s re-tooling our events to make them more efficient as an organization and more inviting for the people of Morgan Hill.
As noted in your recent editorial, communication remains a great concern. Not only the communication within our organization keeping ourselves and our more than 200 volunteers informed but between IDI, city and the downtown association, to name but two of our partners.
The best way to prevent or solve a problem using my management style is to do so at the lowest possible level. Instead of having an intermediary pass messages between two organizations, let the organizations work things out themselves. It’s amazing what direct communications can do. Even if the two entities don’t agree in principal solutions can arise from the understanding that results from the simple act of communicating.
Thanks again, Morgan Hill. Let the good times roll and just wait and see what we have in-store for you for 2007!
Alex Kennett, President, IDI
