Executive search consultant Ralph Anderson & Associates will help the city find a new city manager by early 2013.

Ed Tewes, who has served as Morgan Hill city manager for the last 13 years, announced in August that he will be stepping down as of Dec. 28, 2012.

The City Council unanimously approved the contract with Ralph Anderson & Associates as part of the consent calendar at the Sept. 19 council meeting. The contract, which includes professional fees, advertising costs and expenses, will cost up to $23,750 from the city’s general fund, according to city staff.

The consultant will conduct a nationwide search for a new city manager, even though some current city employees would be eligible to apply, and are in fact likely to be interested in the job, according to city staff.

A council subcommittee consisting of Mayor Steve Tate and Council member Gordon Seibert will work with the consultant as the search progresses.
