Sobrato’s Czsarina Isleta will have plenty of events to choose from at the Central Coast Section Swim Championships in May.
The junior’s repertoire was shown in full Thursday as she qualified for sectionals in three swims, including the 200-yard individual medley (2:18.88), during the Lady Bulldogs’ 132-35 dual-meet victory over Mount Pleasant. Isleta also met CCS standards in winning the 100 butterfly (1:02.21) and 400-freestyle relay (3:59.51) with Lauren Akin, Christiana Bridges and Gabrielle Smith. In addition, Isleta has qualified in the 100 breaststroke, and Bridges the 500 free.
The Sobrato girls are 5-1 in league.
- Live Oak senior Michelle Mikaelsson continued cutting time in the 200 IM Wednesday against Santa Teresa and Piedmont Hills. Mikaelsson, the 2011 Mount Hamilton Division runner-up, won the event in a high school-season best 2:15.81, almost six seconds better than the CCS mark, and later won the 100 breast.
Live Oak’s Ryan McCombs won the 50 free in a sectional-qualifying time of 23.01, and also touched first in the 100 free. Teammate Daniel Pawlak met a CCS standard while placing third (55.41) in the 100 fly, and won the 500 free and 200-free relay with Saul Orona, Connor Haines and McCombs.
Boys tennis
The West Valley Division champion Sobrato Bulldogs completed a 13-0 finish in league play Thursday, beating Mount Pleasant 7-0 at Sobrato High School.
It is Sobrato’s first undefeated conference season since 2008, the year the Bulldogs won their only previous league title in the West Valley Division.
Alex Ferreira, Justin Lyle, Mitchell Pasek and Josh Ino won in singles play, and Adarsh Cherra-Adrian Quintana, Taylor Melody-Ravnit Grewall and Chris Johnson-Marko Macura won in doubles for Sobrato, which will face Evergreen Valley at the Blossom Valley Athletic League Tournament in two weeks for a spot in sectionals.
Softball
Heather Johnson homered and went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, and Sobrato beat visiting Willow Glen 7-4 Friday for a 6-0 finish to the first half of Santa Teresa Division play.
Nicole Kiles and Morgan Martinelli added two hits, and Samantha Torres struck out four in a six-hitter for the Bulldogs (9-3 overall), who have clinched postseason eligibility and are closing on their first league title and CCS playoff berth.
- The Live Oak Acorns scored all of their runs with two outs in the second inning of a 7-6 victory over Santa Teresa on Friday.
Katie Obbema tripled in three runs, and Rachel Ditta, Annika Camacho and Ashley Zerr scored and plated one run apiece, with Zerr totaling three hits for the Acorns (9-5, 4-2), winners of three straight in the Mount Hamilton Division.
Obbema struck out three in the full seven innings.
Boys volleyball
Sobrato ended the first half of league play on a 4-0 run, capped with a sweep – 28-26, 25-12, 25-22 – on Tuesday at SHS.
The defending Santa Teresa Division champs won behind a game-high eight kills from Logan Mosher and five by Drew Mammen and Andre Vigano, who also had 11 assists. Sobrato (10-10, 4-2) hosts Lincoln on April 17.
