Walnut Grove resident and former council candidate Allan Abrams told the City Council last week that the grassroots group, Citizens for Responsible Development, is now nearly 1,000 members strong and growing.
“We are vigilant and watching the council very carefully,” Abrams said.
Having reviewed past council minutes, CRD is concerned that some council members have not heard what the group had to say about the proposed auto dealerships next to their Rosemary Circle/Diana Avenue residential area.
“We are against auto dealers in that area,” Abrams said. “We are not ready to discuss compromise. But we are willing to sit down with the city and talk about developing that area. We are not naive enough to expect the open groves to remain undeveloped.”
Residents objected last year when the city began talks with the several owners of property on East Dunne Avenue and Walnut Grove Avenue, next to Courtesy Chevrolet, Walgreens and Kindercare.
At least one auto dealer showed an interest in locating near the Chevrolet dealership – they prefer to “cluster” – but residents, who had thought the land across a fence from their homes was zoned multi-family residential, did not want the noise, lights and exhaust they said is normal with such businesses.
