The Sobrato girls swim team won the Santa Teresa Division Finals meet for its league championship at the B level Saturday at Independence High School.
With a full lineup this time around, the Bulldogs avenged their only loss in dual meets, scoring 477.5 points to beat out second-place Willow Glen (464).
Sobrato captured six titles, including three for Czsarina Isleta, and picked up three entries for this week’s Central Coast Section Swimming & Diving Championships.
The Bulldogs foursome of Christiana Bridges, Devon MacDonald, Lauren Akin and Isleta set the tone for the meet with their victory in the opening 200-medley relay (1:59.62). Isleta added wins in the 200-individual medley (2:12.92) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.32), as did Bridges in the 500 freestyle (5:16.91), and Akin in the 100 backstroke (1:05.06).
Akin, a freshman, earned her fourth CCS-qualifying cut in the 200 freestyle (2:02:63) and helped the Bulldogs advance in the 400-free relay (3:51.90) with Gabrielle Smith, Bridges and Isleta. Smith met the 200-IM (2:20.89) standard as well.
The 400-relay cut was Isleta’s seventh qualifying time for the CCS Championships, which begin with the boys diving finals at 9 a.m. Friday at the Santa Clara International Swim Center.
The championship swims are scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
The Sobrato boys fell short of winning the team title Saturday, but they added the 200- and 400-free relays to their list of entries for sectionals.
Seniors Patrick Read and Adam Jasper swam in both events and keyed the Bulldogs’ lone victory in the medley relay (1:48.01) with Gio Chau and Connor Bleeg.
The 200-free relay (1:34.40) also featured Rich Thomas and Bleeg. Jacob Pigone and Logan Bleeg joined Jasper and Read in the 400-free relay (3:31.41).
Sobrato, which finished 7-0 in dual meets, scored the second highest (384) behind meet-champion Independence (394). The final Santa Teresa Division standings, a combination of dual meets and Saturday’s finals, had not been completed by press time.
