So Big To Big

What is that building going up on Dunne Avenue near Nordstrom Park? My heart stopped when I saw this huge structure going up in this residential area. How did it get past our wonderful city planners?

Please tell me it’s a mistake and will be torn down.

No mistake. Wai Yan Ho of Cupertino, is building an 18,450 square-foot strip mall and office building on this northwest corner of Murphy and East Dunne avenues, next to the existing strip mall. Being so close to the freeway, the property is not zoned residential. Instead zoning is mixed use of retail stores, offices, personal services and restaurants.

The Planning Commission gave Ho a waiver allowing more small eating places than normal, after he mentioned coffee, sandwich and ice cream shops. It’s close to the Aquatics and regional soccer complexes and all those visitors eat.

We’re afraid the thing is here to stay. Even worse, the center will cause a new traffic signal to appear at Murphy – that makes 10, count them, 10, stop lights on Dunne Avenue. At least they are saving the big old oak tree and at least the building is only two stories high.

Lights Out

How do we get a street light fixed? The one at 16850 Jolene Way has been out for a long time.

Call the Public Works Department, 776-7337, and tell them the number on the little plaque on the light pole and the address. They will contact PG&E and have it fixed. Your government at work for you.

Lazy Landlords

“My gripe is people who buy homes for rentals. They collect rent and don’t bother to make sure that the landscaping is kept up. It makes our neighborhoods look very bad. Don’t landlords know they can deduct gardening services on their income taxes? C’mon landlords, let’s keep Morgan Hill clean and beautiful. Thank you.”

If they didn’t know before, they sure do now. Thanks for the call.
