“Dear Red Phone, I’m calling regarding the intersection at Tennant Avenue to get to U.S. 101 north. It’s been more than a year, and time after time I see people who think they can still make a left turn, but are forced to make a U-turn at Condit Road. After watching the construction of the new bridge over U.S. 101 for more than a year, and with the new onramp in place since last spring, one would think people would stop making this mistake.”
Red Phone: Dear Concerned Driver, one would think that after nearly a year people would get a clue, but Red Phone never underestimates the incompetence of some drivers.
Good caller, hope that helps.
Illegal to attach signs to signal posts
““Red Phone, I’m calling regarding all the garage sale signs stuck on traffic signal posts throughout town. It’s an eyesore. When they pull them down – if they are removed at all – they leave the tape. Is there an ordinance that prohibits that? Thanks.”
Red Phone: Dear There Oughta be a Law … there is.
According to section 8.16.150 – Posting notices prohibited, in the city’s municipal code, “No person shall post or affix any notice, poster or other paper or device, calculated to attract the attention of the public, to any lamp post, public utility pole or shade tree, or upon any public structure or building, except as may be authorized or required by law.”
So, not only is it illegal to leave the tape after removing signs from posts, but it’s illegal to attach them in the first place.
Here’s an idea. Instead of attaching garage sale signs to posts that few can read as they drive past, take out a classified ad that thousands will read. Or post it on our online calendar at www.morganhlltimes.com, or on our Facebook page. Got to admit, those options are better than signs affixed to posts. Just a thought.
